Abba Kyari, IRT Police Team In Disarray Over IGP Promotion After Evans’ Arrest

The ugly sides of the arrest of the notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudi Dumeme Onuamadike popularly known as Evans are gradually coming out over the alleged selective promotion of the police officers who participated in the operations that led to the eventual arrest of the suspect and that of his gang members around the country.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the recent promotion announced by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Abubakar Idris for the officers who participated in the operation has torn the officers apart and they seemed to be in disarray at the moment.

The bone of contention actually was the alleged hijack of the list where names of some certain officers has been reportedly removed by some undisclosed top cops.

Our correspondent gathered that the IG actually promoted the officers within his capacity from the rank and file, and they were happy.

But the fate of the other officers from the rank of Inspectors and other senior officers including Kyari seemed to be unknown following the position of some top officers who were against the promotion exercise.

It was gathered that some of the officers were promoted after the arrest of Vampire and some of his gang members and as such, if the same officers were promoted, it would amount to two promotions within a year.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that some top police officers were said to be against it and were doing everything possible to ensure that the names of those officers were not sent to the Police Service Commission for promotion.

Following the development, the team was said to be in disarray and the drive to work has been low at the moment due to the recent development.

Our reporter gathered that the team worked day and night; travelling to states such as Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Abia and others before they were able to achieve success.

Some of the senior officers who were aware of the plot were against it; saying that the officers were supposed to be rewarded not minding whether they were promoted a week before they achieved such historic high profile arrest of kidnapping gang.

“They merited the promotion because it was achieved through hard work and there was no need for “bad belle” that could demoralize their good works,” one of the senior officer said.

It was gathered that some other senior officers were against the ‘double promotion’ because the officers will level up with their former seniors which will not augur well in the police hierarchy ranking system.

However, the general disposition within the police circle, P.M.EXPRESS gathered was that all the officers should be rewarded as announced by the IGP.

It was not confirmed whether their names have been forwarded to the Police Service Commission as the bickering had delayed the submission of the list.

The Police Force Public Relation Officer, FPPRO, Jimoh Moshood could not be reached fore comment as his phone was switched off.

"Most Married Actresses Are Cheats" –Actress Sapphire Ogodobodo

Nollywood actress and producer, Sapphire Ogodo, has aired her views on why celebrity marriages are crumbling like a pack of cookies.

According to the star actress of ‘Church Prostitute’, most of her married colleagues are arrogant and unfaithful to their spouses.

“Most of these celebrities never wanted marriage, they just wanted to try and see if the society would accept them. When they are with their spouses, they would keep other men in different places to satisfy themselves.

“They are always with one Senator or the other, or attending one society party or the other. After seeing and mingling with all those big men, they get home and their husband says one thing, they respond with one thousand things because they are not seeing the sexiness in him again. We need to retrace our steps,” she says.

The mother of two also delved into the trending issue of domestic violence, which has become the major grounds of celebrities’ troubled marriages.

“Women should generally learn how to be submissive to their husbands. The feminist and ego raves have taken over the industry. Every woman wants to be a man and be in charge.

“Your husband raises his hand on you, for nothing? No! He can’t. He is not a beast.

Tell us, what did you do? Already you are an actress, so your husband always have it in mind that you have tendencies to cheat, so he is always on the look out. So, you have to be careful,” Ogodo stresses.

Meanwhile, the actress has unveiled plans to kick off a reality TV show, ‘Actors Unleashed,’ to harness immense talent for Nollywood.

According to her, the show is aimed at discovering new talents for the movie industry and also to promote originality and culture.

“‘Actors Unleashed’ is borne out of the need to discover and groom new talents and also to promote more of the Nigerian and African culture,” Ogodo explains.

Speaking further, Ogodo said top Nollywood producers are currently backing the idea, which will discover the next big thing in Nollywood and promote them to their full potentials.

“Many producers like Emem Isong and Kunle Afolayan are waiting for this project to kick off. A winner will emerge because there are plans to spot new talents and next big faces in Nollywood.

“We have commenced the sale of forms and interested contestants are to visit the website to know how they can apply. Auditions will be held in six state capitals – Benin-City, Calabar, Enugu, Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, respectively. Dates and venues will be announced soon.

“‘Actors Unleashed’ promises to be action packed and entertainment filled from start to finish. Successful contestants will be camped in the house for two weeks. The show will air on both local and cable TV and viewers can vote for their favourite contestants.”

Five Things You Did As A Child

We all remember the funny things we used to do as a child. Let me take you down the memory lane.

1. Follow Our Parents Out Whenever They're Leaving For Work:- This one was very common then, your dad is about to go to work and you're crying, telling him you want to go with him. The only remedy for this is for him to take you out and buy you biscuits and sweets, before you can let him go, Lol.

2. Poo Wherever Possible:- My mum told me one time, that my little sister used to go to our Dad's shoe rack to pick a shoe and take a dump. I'm sure we might have similar experiences.

3. Think The Moon Is Following You Around At Night:- I remember going out at night as a little kid, and I'll look up to the moon while walking down. Thinking the moon is following me, I'd start running down, while still looking up and see that the moon is following me. We didn't know the moon was on its own jeje.

4. Cry When Getting A Haircut:- This was common with boys. Our very first time of getting a haircut is always a disaster. Your mom would have to lap you, your elder siblings would have to hold your hands, and the barber would also try to hold down your head, cus you would be resisting.

5. Believed That Once We Act Dead and An Angel Passes us, We would really die:- My sister and I used to play a lot. So one time I fell on the floor and played dead, her words were “I pity you, when angel will pass you now". If you see the speed I used to get up ehn! Who wants to die??

So that's it guys, feel free to add yours too.

"What To Do If Armed Robbers Invade Your House, Neigbourhood"

The police has released the following useful tips in the event robbers manage to enter on to our premises or inside our houses. hope there will be useful to you and can help save a life.

1. Robbers typically launch their attacks from the backdoor (normally kitchen doors) because they are usually not fortified. Get good doors for your kitchen. Use crossbars at the back or “burglarproof” behind the doors inside the house. If you have keys to the burglarproof, never leave them inside the lock. Where possible, use a padlock in addition to the keys. The purpose is to make it as difficult as possible for the robbers to enter into the house and to buy you time to call somebody for help.

2. When you hear someone breaking your doors, unless you are absolutely sure your actions will prevent entry into the house, don’t try to be a hero by pushing back behind the doors (they may shoot at you through the doors), or putting heavy items like freezers or furniture behind it (they get more angry and when they are able to finally enter they are more likely to be violent).

3. If you sleep without clothes or with minimal clothing, dress up as soon as you hear them. For the women especially, don’t stay in your nighties or wrappers, wear trousers and an ugly top.

4. If you call someone on the phone for help, keep the phone far from you as you don’t want it to be known that you’ve done so.

5. Look for your main power switch and plunge the building into darkness (it disorients them and may cause them to run away).

6. If you have a gun, registered or not, use it but only if you’re sure you will do damage. This isn’t the time for warning shots! Killing an intruder on your premises in defence of yourself and property is a legitimate legal defence. Same goes for the use of any other weapon e.g. knives.

7. When the robbers manage to enter give them whatever they want. Don’t hide anything. Don’t try to be a hero or to negotiate with them.

8. Don’t look at them directly (or don’t let them see you doing so). If you know any of them don’t show any signs of recognition and don’t mention the person’s name. However memorise whatever features you can to help with identification and investigation.

9. When they finally leave your house do not chase after them..

10. Be your neighbour’s keeper and if you hear any breaks in at their house, call the police for assistance.
11. When robbers enter your compound, do not put on any light in your room. Put on the outside lights but keep the inside lights totally off so that the robbers do not see you.

12. Never run out of the house when robbers invade your house or neigbourhood, if you succeed going outside and you are caught by them, you may never come out of it alive.

More Tips:

13. Never share your location on any of your social media pages or account.

14. Avoid staying out late in the night, especially going out without a car.

15. Don’t keep too much of friends, especially those who you don’t really know much of their identity.

"My Mum Was Too Harsh On Me When I Got Pregnant At 17" - Actress Ireti Doyle

Nollywood actress, Iretiola Doyle recently opened up on little known facts about her childhood.
According to the actress, her family members, including her mother, were harsh on her when she got pregnant at the age of 17.

Speaking recently at Harvesters International Christian Centre in Lagos, she said:

'You have to surround yourself with people who love and support you. I was blessed to have people around me; unfortunately these people are not family members. My mother didn’t take it lightly with me. I wouldn’t have handled it the way she did because I belong to a different generation. I was nurtured by people I met and they constantly reminded me that my life didn’t end with that bad situation.”

She continued to say:

'I felt I still remained who I was. I came from a very good home, not by wealth but value. Education was not negotiable in my family. I didn’t want that one mistake to define who I was. But it was quite difficult for me because it was the talk of the town for quite a number of years'.

"We Have Resolved Nigeria Must Not Break" - Governors

• Osinbajo asks state helmsmen to battle hate speech

Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja

State governors, on Wednesday, said they had resolved that they would not allow Nigeria to break up, stating that those fanning the embers of war were wasting their time.

The governors spoke after their meeting with Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in continuation of Osinbajo’s consultations on the recent tension in the country as a result of several agitations.

Oyo State Governor, Abiola, Ajimobi, who spoke on behalf of the other governors, said the governors and other stakeholders had agreed that despite the agitations being witnessed in parts of the country, Nigeria must not break.

Speaking with State House correspondents at the end of a meeting, Osinbajo stated that any Nigerians expecting the country to break was only wasting his time.

“The message is for Nigerians to work more together and collaborate. We have more to gain when we are united.

“We cannot afford to break, and anybody that is thinking of that, is wasting his time, and we will not allow it, not in this country. All of us are unanimous about that,” he added.

He said the governors resolved that the unity of the country “is sacrosanct, non-negotiable and we have all agreed to work together to educate people.”

Ajimobi added, “Any time you have agitation, usually, there will be poverty; there will be unemployment; there will be hardship. So, we should address fundamentally these areas of poverty, unemployment and hardship.

“Nigerians are by nature a united people; nobody cares whether you are from the north, south or the east.”

The governor also warned against the consequences of war, urging Nigerians to learn from Rwanda and Somalia.

Osinbajo had appealed to the governors to always be ready to speak up against statements from individuals or groups capable of setting the nation on fire.

He said they must be ready to protect the nation and its democracy from the hands of those who were bent on dividing the country.

He spoke before the meeting, which was held inside the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, went into a closed-door session.

He stated, “We must not allow the careless use of words, careless expressions that may degenerate into crisis.

“We are a people that like to talk and we express ourselves loudly but it is expected for us to recognise that it is those same words that can cause conflagration; that can unfortunately lead to calamity. We must be careful on how we express ourselves.

“What we have seen in recent times is that some of the languages (words) used have tended to degenerate badly and I think that we must begin to speak up against some of these things and ensure that we protect our democracy and our nation from the hands of rhetoric that may just divide us.

Osinbajo, who had earlier met separately with leaders of thought and traditional rulers from both the North and the South-East, said those who participated in the previous consultations agreed that Nigeria’s unity should not be taken for granted.

He said nobody wanted the nation to witness bloodshed or war.

While describing the previous meetings as frank and open, Osinbajo said they were able to agree on most of the critical issues that were discussed, and in most cases, changed perceptions that might have been long embedded in their minds.

He added that the participants also agreed that under no circumstances should hateful speeches be condoned and that government should take all steps necessary to bring to book all those who preached violence.

The acting President stated that they also agreed that government needed to do more to engage youths productively, create some jobs and multiply the economic opportunities available.

Osinbajo added, “More importantly, we agreed on the need for leaders to speak out forcefully to counter divisive speech or any kind of warmongering.

“We agreed that leaders, at all levels, must speak out forcefully against any kind of divisiveness or divisive speech. And we expect that our political leaders will do so without waiting to be prompted.

“All of those who spoke felt that sometimes when leaders do not speak up promptly, it always results in degeneration, no matter what the problem may be.

“This applied to both the statements made by the young people in the South-East as well as the youth in the northern states. We discovered there was a need for much greater resonance in the way that these things are done and for the leaders to speak up more forcefully.

“We believe that if the leaders do not speak up forcefully enough, if for any reason, matters are allowed to degenerate, not only does leadership lose their legitimacy, they run the risk of things going completely out of control.”

He commended the leaders from the North and South-East for their openness at the consultations, saying they were extremely responsible even in their criticisms of what they felt were issues that should have been better handled.

While saying their criticisms were fair and balanced, he commended them for their sense of responsibility and their leadership.

Osinbajo mentioned the issue of herdsmen and farmers crisis, especially the way that some of these had resulted in flashpoints across the country, as one of the issues raised at the previous meetings.

He said it was important that lasting and satisfactory solutions were found to the problems identified.

Describing the problems as multidimensional, Osinbajo said state governors had important roles to play especially because they were in control of their territories.

He stated, “We must resist the temptation to play politics especially with matters of security, but to reach for simplistic narratives that might be originally expedient and satisfying but false, deceiving and sometimes unhealthy to proper understanding of the issues.”

Governors, who attended the meeting, included Rauf Aregbesola (Osun); Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo); Dave Umahi (Ebonyi); Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto); Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano); Nyesom Wike (Rivers) and Godwin Obaseki (Edo).

Among others are governors from Borno, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Benue, Plateau, Kogi, Lagos, Kebbi, Ondo, Imo, Taraba and Anambra states among others.
